"One Fiction, One Non-fiction" + Movies

Reading is a frugal person's hobby.

Now, I have to admit, when I have some non-fiction reading binge, I'd end up getting bored out of my wits few books after. It goes the same way when I do some science fiction reading binge! I need balance, so here I am, doing a : ONE FICTION, ONE NON-FICTION thing

This is the first week I am doing this and I hope this will cure the boredom I always feel after reading too much fiction or too much non-fiction in a long stretch of time.

So, I already read Think Like a Freak by no other than Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner, and I am currently reading Dracula My Love: The Secret Journals of Mina Harker by Syrie James. See, a non-fiction and a fiction! All is well!

Having been able to read Dracula in Love and Bram Stoker's Dracula, I also need to read the Dracula, My Love book. The Dracula in Love and Dracula, My Love are based on the Bram Stoker's Dracula, so got to read 'em, right?!

I also picked up DVDs that I put on hold in my local library:

  • Bam Stoker's Dracula- I already watch this before but having read the book, I opted to watch the movie again while the information and scenes that were in the book is still fresh.
  • The Secret Life of Walter MITTY
  • The Other Guys

Movies and Books: Going with the Halloween Theme

To go with the Halloween theme, I decided to read some scary books.

I originally wanted to read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, but it wasn't available on e-book version in my local library. So I opted with this e-book: Dracula in Love by Karen Essex

- If you watch or have read Bram Stoker's Dracula, this book is actually Mina's side of the story. There is a lot of sex and sexual act involve so this book is for mature readers only. I think, Dracula was describe here as super hot and super sensual kind of man! I feel in love with him through this book! Hehe

Of course, once I finished the Dracula in Love book in just a day, I jumped and read the classic Bram Stoker's Dracula book! I was worried that it is going to be hard to read considering that it  is an old book. But to my surprise, it's not naman! I am glad it's available in e-book version in my local library. It saves me time coz I can automatically download it without having to go to the library personally. I am still 50% done with the book, by the way. I am planning on rewatching the Dracula movie again once I'm done with the book.

Last night, I also squeezed in some movie time, too. I borrowed it from the library by the way. I actually saw this movie when I was younger, but only some scenes remain in my memory bank, like when Kirsten Dunst cut her hair coz she wanted to be older but her hair just grows back- that's the only scene that comes to mind when I think about the movie.

Booooooooooo! Happy Halloween, folks!

The Strain Trilogy: Done Reading in Less than a Week!

Pardon my lack of post in my other blog. I was just busy... reading science fiction books!

Reading 3 thick books in less than 7 days is a record for me. I was having some The Strain withdrawal after the Season 1 ended, so here I am, binge-reading Del Toro's books!

After finishing the book earlier, I found myself staring at the ceiling just internalizing everything. Next thing I knew, I fell asleep!

Let's just say I was sad because of what happen to the characters, and because I finished the book! Me want more!

I am working on a blog post and editing my older, published posts. Too many wrong comma placements and grammar problems! I cringed! But good thing is, the more I blog, the more my writing skills improved. Slowly but surely, right? I am getting there.

MARVEL and DC Kind of Night

What an ultra nerdy night!

First, I watched a series on FOX:

Then, I also watched:

I borrowed it from the library. Enjoyed it, immensely!

11:32 PM now, time to go catch some Zzzzzz. It's way beyond my bedtime!

The Strain: First Season is Over :(

I'm completely hooked with the show, and I was sad that the first season was over, the last episode was shown last night. :(

I discovered this show by accident. One Sunday, I was watching Mission Impossible 3 on FX and they kept flashing The Strain, on how it's going to be the "premier" of the show that night, blah blah. When I heard that Guillermo del Toro is one of the writer of the book as well as the producer, I jumped up and down! I love Guillermo del Toro!

So, Season 2 will be this 2015. A long wait, right? Well, at least Walking Dead Season 5 will start this Sunday! My Sunday night happiness is still on! Wohooo!

Science fiction fan here, if you noticed!

I was loading  my metro/bus card when the machine spit out some shiny one dollar coins as my change. I got excited! It's rare for me to recieve or come across coins like these. A keeper!

Myyyyy Precioussssss

BREAKING OUT!

I have been breaking out like crazy!

When I was in my teens, I don't really have a problem with acne and pimples. Yes, I was fat, but my skin was clear.

Now that I am in my late 20s, pimples are starting to pop up. It gets out of control days before my period.

I tried switching to natural and organic beauty products to no avail, and I don't want to be trying a lot of skin care stuffs coz I don't want to be wasting my money over it. Once I buy a skin care, I don't usually buy another one up until I finish the one that I am currently using

I am currently using facial wash that has salicylic acid in it and a "natural" moisturizer I got from Trader Joe's. I feel like TJ's Enrich moisturizer is the one that's making me break out, but I feel bad going out and buying another moisturizer without really using it all up. Yah, I am cheap like that.

I am tempted to try out Clinique moisturizer. I heard it's good. I was thinking of splurging on skin care for once in my life. I'll wait for the sale before buying, though. Hopefully it'll work out.

And oh, I did try Argan Oil but again, natural and organic skin care don't seem to work on my skin. I am currently using the Argan Oil on my under eyes and my hair.

Oh, well! Having acne is not the end of the world, I guess!

A Day Spent on Reading

Saturday was spent curled up on my bed with a book on my hand. I must have slept close to 12 midnight last night.

The book was good! It's rare for me to indulge on fiction books as I tend to lean towards non fiction books that deals with moolah.

Though I did my usual routine like jogging and dropping/picking up the books and documentaries to/from the library, majority of my day was spent just on my bed, reading something about a possibility of cannibalism, arsonist and mercury addiction.

It was a fun day!

Weekend and Documentaries + a Movie

Last week was a book marathon week, I read a total of 3 books ( Congo, The Wolf of Wall Street, Doing More with Less). This weekend, I'll indulge myself with documentaries, coz I love me some documentary!

========================================================================

Sunday

I already finished watching them all! I also squeezed in some book reading yesterday afternoon. I actually finished reading it yesterday (Little Book of Emerging Markets by Mark Mobius)

Such a productive week for me!

Documentaries I watched:

  • HAPPY PEOPLE : A YEAR IN THE TAIGA
  • THE NATURE OF EXISTENCE
  • FREAKONOMICS
  • FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS
  • THE GREATEST SILENCE: RAPE IN THE CONGO

I also watched a movie by Steven Spielberg entitled GOONIES. Great, old movie! Samwise was in there!

As I am typing this, it is already 2 in the afternoon. I am sipping my 4th cup of Joe for the day. I am also doing my laundry.

Will head out later to return the documentaries, movie and the book ( all mentioned above) to the library.

Lip balm Thursday

I hate cherry Chapstick! ( I know, hate is a strong word, but what can I do? I really hate it.) It make me sick! The smell! Ick! It literally gives me headache! I know, I'm weird!

But I am using cherry Chapstick for about a month now even though I hate it, because I have it in my stash and I can't bring myself to throw it away. So here I am, using it and just swallowing and ignoring the headache and the smell!

I was waiting for some kind of lip balm sale, coz I'm cheap like that. Then, something amazing happen,I received    $5.00 CVS Extra bucks Rewards! Wohoooo! I finally got a new lip balm, and I got it almost FREE!!! Double Wohooo!!

CARMEX- My first time trying this. It was recommend to me by my friend. Was eyeing EOS lip balm ( never tried one), but it was out of stock, so I settled for these. Price: $4.29

The first time trying Carmex just a while ago, it had this tingly sensation. Maybe because of the Menthol that's in it. It feels good, actually!

So, since I didn't reach the $5 total, I had to get something, so I can qualify for the extra bucks coupon. I just added KitKat for 99 cents.

So I ended up paying 28 cents for the two items. Not bad!
